Mens Burgundy and Maroon Suits

The colour burgundy is made by adding purple to red and is named after the wine Burgundy, created in the french region by the same name. The colour is similar to maroon and oxblood but is slightly more vivid. Although not relevant to tailoring, it means that the burgundy suit has a livelier colour in comparison to other suit options, and is in fact a very flattering suit because of the colour’s earthy tones. The burgundy suit has become increasingly popular, especially in slimmer fits, as many are looking for a way of standing out from the sea of black suits, whilst still staying appropriately dressed for formal events. In fact, the burgundy suit is a great way of doing just that. It can be worn to most events where one is expected to wear black or dark suits and has a more elegant and sophisticated feel than its grey and blue siblings. Worn with classic suit pairings like a white shirt, bow-tie, pocket square and shiny dress shoes, the burgundy suit excels at providing a look that is classic, yet effortlessly contemporary. A daring but still classically formal look is achieved by wearing all black under your burgundy suit — black shirt, black tie, black belt and black shoes. With many outfit choices available, here’s no reason why you wouldn’t be able to wear a burgundy suit to a wedding. A lightweight burgundy suit can easily be dressed down for an easy-to-wear, causal expression. Paired with short-sleeved shirts, t-shirts or a fine knit, the burgundy suit is perfect for smart-casual occasions. Black dress shoes is a great footwear option, but you can also be more experimental in your choices. A Chelsea boot or brogue is a great alternative unless you want to go full-on casual with a pair of trainers. If you need more to be convinced that a burgundy suit can work for you, then let it be this: adding a matching waistcoat to your suit will make it look more formal. A burgundy three-piece is excellent for special occasions, and looks contemporary and sophisticated.
