Dinner Jacket

Whether you call it a dinner jacket, tuxedo, DJ or dinner suit, we speak your language. A tuxedo is one of the hallmarks of Dobell, and we have one of the classiest, yet most affordable ranges in the whole of the UK, as you can see above. Tuxedos and dinner jackets are the area of the men’s formal wear market that actually where we started our business, and we’d like to think of ourselves as experts in this area.

The rules of wearing a tuxedo are quite strict, yet also obvious and fairly simple to follow. Typically the tuxedo dinner jacket comes with either grosgrain or, more popularly, satin lapels, which is the first distinguishable feature from that of the classic suit jacket.

The jacket has historically been paired with matching tuxedo trousers, with a single stripe of braid, or stripe, on the outseam of each leg, however during the 1930’s it became popular to wear white jackets during hot weather, to divert the sun’s heat. Since this period, and especially in the advancement of male fashion in the last decade, it has been popular to wear a contrasting coloured dinner jacket with the traditional tuxedo trousers.

These variations of taste have seen the introduction of tweed and velvet dinner jackets, of which we have a fantastic selection above, and in the most popular cases, partnered with colour matched trousers. Variations on the colours or materials used on dinner jackets are typically deemed slightly less formal than the white, and certainly the black jackets normally associated with formal dress codes of black tie.

Our dinner jacket range has been carefully selected, so you are guaranteed excellent quality, and paralleled value for money. Our sizes and styles have been likewise tailored to fit like a tailored suit, at a price that, literally, suits best.
